A lot of people have told me that the characters in The Dance of the White Deer “come alive” and “are well developed.” This, of course, makes me a happy writer. I am a very visual person, and when I am creating characters it helps me to picture them in my mind, sometimes as celebrities, and sometimes as people I know in real life. Often the characters I create are combinations of people I have crossed paths with as well as people I have seen on the big screen. A person’s mannerisms, or the essence of who they seem to be when I observe them or interact with them, stick with me and often inspire me. I wrote in a previous post that the character of Lucinda Stone was partially inspired by a cashier I used to encounter in a grocery store.
Anyway, just for fun, here are some actors (and a few unknown models) who look the way I picture the characters in The Dance of the White Deer to look. Can you guess who is who? Btw, Limery is missing from this collage as are some of the book’s minor characters.
Many of you already know that in addition to being a writer I am also a professional photographer. This year I am planning some photo shoots with models selected to portray some of the book’s characters. As I further organize my ideas around this project I will be doing a model call on my business page. If you don’t already follow my photography business page you can find it on Facebook.
